The acting career of Reese Witherspoon began to flourish when she enrolled at Stanford University. She had early successes with films like Pleasantville, Election and Legally Blonde. However, it was her performance in the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde's big-budget smash that truly marked the beginning of her career. Witherspoon's role on Walk the Line earned her an Academy Award nomination in 2005. Water for Elephants: This Means War & Wild, for both of which she received the Oscar nomination. The first year she was out of high school Witherspoon was contemplating quitting acting completely to follow her parents into the medical field. In 1996, her performance as the main actress in the film Freeway won her the Catalonian International Film Festival Award for the Best Actress. In order to devote her time more to acting she decided to postpone her studies at college for one time.
